The new president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) wants to start negotiations to return Russia to the Olympic Games.
Kirtei Kovoveni says that he sees a “inconsistency” in the current approach, when “distributed by Russia, while conflicts occur on his own continent.”
She emphasized that she opposed the ban on the participation of countries at the Olympic Games through military conflicts.
What I would like to do is create a working group that would try to develop a certain policy and some recommendations that we, as a movement, could use for decision -making when we are drawn into conflicts […] In the end, I think that for our movement it is better for all athletes, ”she said.
Coventry was elected president of the International Olympic Committee on March 20
She became the first woman and the first African in this position. Coventry won 7 of the 8 Olympic medals of Zimbabwe. She is the Minister of Sports of Zimbabwe and the two gold medalist of the Olympic Swimming Olympic Games. During the vote, Coventry went around almost one hundred colleagues from the IOC.
She replaced Thomas Bach in this position, headed by the International Olympic Committee from 2013 to 2025.
