Rubio personally turned to Siyari, urge not to break the EU penalty policy, which eventually convinced Budapest to abandon his decision to hinder sanctions against the Russian Federation.
Hungary decided not to apply a veto to expand the penalties of the European Union against Russia after the Hungary Peter’s Foreign Affairs minister discussed the situation with American Secretary of State Mark Rubio. Politico reported this on Monday, March 17.
At first, Budapest intended to hinder the penalties, mentioning, among other things, with Donald Trump returning to the White House. However, after Trump’s threat, to impose new penalties against the Russian Federation if the Kremlin did not agree with a Truce in Ukraine, Hungary changed its position.
Rubio personally turned to Siyari, urging that the EU penalty policy not to be discouraged, which eventually convinced Budapest to abandon his decision. At the same time, there are fears that Trump can change his approach and offer alleviation of sanctions, which can weaken EU positions in Hungary negotiations.
Currently, there is no consensus in the EU if it is possible to soften sanctions against Russia, regardless of Trump’s position.
Remember, for unlocking the decision on sanctions against the Russian Federation, Hungary asked to exclude eight people from the list of penalties, however, they agreed with the three.
Earlier, President Vladimir Zelensky said pressure penalties in Russia should continue, in particular, the 17th package of EU penalties against the Russian Federation was required.
What do Europe’s friends wish for Putin and if the veto hungarian’s veto
