It is necessary to discuss the interests of Russia, ”said the former German chancellor Angela Merkel about negotiations on the termination of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and a possible attack on Russians on NATO countries.
In an interview with Berliner Zeitung, Merkel no longer recognized the mistake of her aggressor policy and made several more ambiguous statements.
The main of them:
Putin is currently trying to weaken the European Union. This is part of the Russian military doctrine. He has no excuse to attack another country. But the discussion about the interests of Russia should be allowed.
Putin loves recognition very much, especially from America. This way of thinking came from the Cold War. For him, important players are not Germany or the EU, but the United States of America, which is a real large state. They were and remain his reference point.
It’s too early to talk about whether Trump will be on the side of Putin. But the fact that the United States, together with Russia, adopted a resolution against the territorial integrity of Ukraine just a few days before a meeting in the Oval office at the UN General Assembly is very unusual.
I would not want to see this meeting (Zelenski and Trump in the White House – sticky) in this form, especially considering that all of Russia, including Putin.
I have very few illusions about Putin. But I recommend putting myself in its place at a time (when Merkel was a chancellor – ed. And I also recommend that today there is another prospect, not to say immediately that you have made the wrong decision. I do not make it for myself.
From the point of view of an increase in NATO east and Putin’s concern, this should be a discussion.
You must think about diplomatic initiatives in advance so that they are available at the right time. The President of Zelensky cannot decide alone when the time has come for diplomacy. Ukraine can solve this problem only with its allies.
