The person has lived a record of 100 days with an artificial heart as expecting a donor organ and waited for a transplant.
Australia has set a record, which has lived 100 days with an artificial titanium heart, waiting for a donor transplant. This is the longest time of one’s life with this technology, CNN reported on Wednesday, March 12.
A person nearly 40 years old received an implant during a St. Hospital operation. Vincent in Sydney in November 2024. In February 2025, he became the first person in the world to leave the hospital with this device supporting his life until a heart donor appeared in March.
It is noted that a patient with severe heart failure, “is well restored.”
The device was developed by the American-Australian Company Bivacor. It is still in the stage of the test, in particular, it did not receive permission for extensive use.
The artificial heart Bivacor (Tah) has only one mobile part – a leviting rotor held by magnets. Development is made of titanium and does not contain valves or mechanical bearings that can be depleted. The device pumps blood to the body and light, replacing both ventricles of the heart.
Titanic Heart tests continue in the United States, where five patients operate successfully. The number of program participants is expected to expand to 15.
Scientists expect that in the next decade an artificial heart will be a real alternative for those who can’t wait for the donor organ.
Keep in mind that a patient died at a LVIV hospital, which conducted the first transfer of a complex heart and lungs to Ukraine’s history.
