We talk about projects in Equatorial Guinea, Iraq, Ukraine and Colombia, as well as a fund for indigenous people.
The United States reported the end of financing some UN human rights offices, including Ukraine. Programs will be reduced or closed as part of a significant review of foreign assistance costs. This was announced by the UN High Commissioner representative for Human Rights Ravin Sh Shadyi, Reuters reported.
According to him, the UN Human Rights Office received a notice from the US government at the end of five projects.
Ravina Shambasani made it clear that “the warning has to do with the US agency for the development of international and the Department of State Projects of the U.S. in Equatorial Guinea, Iraq, Ukraine and Colombia, as well as a fund for indigenous peoples.”
“Some countries are determined where we will need to reduce our work, including Colombia, including this in Iraq, and in other places we are trying to redefine the funds,” he told journalists in Geneva.
As you know, the UN Human Rights Office has offices and teams around the world documenting abuses, helping people in illegal conclusions, and protect human rights defenders.
Earlier, the United States was the main donor of the UN Human Rights Office, providing nearly 14% of its budget last year in addition to the UN Compulsory Meeting.
Earlier, UN secretary Antoniu Gutherresh said the United States reduced the UN’s assistance, and it led to the suspension of aids in some regions of Ukraine.
Keep in mind that in January Trump signed a command to suspend 90 days of all external programs prior to inspections to determine if they match political goals. USAID in Ukraine has received an order to stop all projects and costs to them.
