At present, internal checks will be carried out. Deputy Head of the Office of the President Andriy Smirnov said this on the air of the telethon, the Ukrinform agency reports.
Based on the results of these specific internal checks and investigations, the president will decide on the need to submit a submission to the parliament on granting consent to the dismissal of the prosecutor general, and the same applies to the head of the SBU,” Smirnov emphasized.
According to Smirnov, the relevant decrees of Volodymyr Zelensky appeared because “the president and we all have been waiting for more concrete and, possibly, radical results from the leaders of these bodies to purge collaborators and traitors for a long time.”
He noted that in the sixth month of the war, collaborators continue to be identified in these law enforcement agencies almost every week.
Therefore, “in order to prevent the potential influence of these two officials on criminal proceedings that are being investigated against employees of the SBU suspected of collaborating with the aggressor country, and the same applies to the prosecutor’s office, the president made appropriate decisions on removal from office and removal.”
Smirnov also explained the difference in wording in Zelensky’s respective decrees:
- Attorney General Venediktov was “removed” in accordance with the President’s right to remove from office an official appointed and dismissed by him;
- Bakanova was “suspended” from her duties in accordance with the Disciplinary Charter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, since the head of the SBU is a military man.
