Messenger “often uses enemies” for destabilization within the Russian Federation, Russian officials said.
In the Russian regions, Dagestan and Chechnya blocked the telegram messenger. This was announced by Dagestan Yuri Gamzatov’s Digital Development Minister, Tass said on Saturday, March 8.
According to him, the blocking was initiated by law enforcement agencies to ensure security.
“The decision to hinder the telegram in two regions of the PKFF (North Caucasian Federal District) -in Chechnya and Dagestan -was accepted at the federal level in the proposal of law enforcement agencies,” Gamzatov said.
He explained that the Messenger “often uses enemies” for destabilization within Russia, which puts an example of disturbances at the Makhachkala airport in October 2023.
Official regional residents recommend moving to alternative platforms, in particular, to VKontakte’s messenger. At the same time, Gamzatov suggested that future restrictions could be removed, but did not specify what it could expect.
Remember that in October last year in Russia, Telegram was punished for “unstable content.” This is the seventh fines of Russia’s telegram since the beginning of the year.
