Ukrainian Meridian Airlines has confirmed the crash of its An-12 aircraft in Greece. All eight dead crew were citizens of Ukraine, said Meridian General Director Denis Bogdanovich.
On the night of Sunday, July 17, an An-12 military transport plane crashed in northeastern Greece, west of Kavala airport in the Pangeon community. DW reports.
As follows from the service data for monitoring the movements of Flightradar24 aircraft dated July 16, the vehicle was flying MEM3032 from Constantine the Great Airport near Nis in Serbia to the capital of Jordan – Amman. According to media reports, the plane was owned by the Ukrainian company Meridian.
It was reported that the crew before the crash were able to warn about a problem with one of the engines, after which the controllers in Greece allowed the plane to land at Thessaloniki airport or in the air harbor of Kavala. The pilot chose the latter, but did not arrive.

In the company “Meridian” the cause of the crash was associated with a technical malfunction in the air.
Serbian Defense Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said the crashed An-12 was carrying defense cargo from a private Serbian company.
According to him, the flight had permission to fly from the Serbian airfield with technical landings in Amman, Riyadh, Ahmedabad. The final destination is Dhaka – the capital of Bangladesh.
Stefanovych rejected the suggestion that the aircraft was carrying weapons for Ukraine. He also specified that the crew were not Serbian citizens.
Recall that eight years ago a passenger plane was shot down into the sky over the Donbass. On the anniversary of the tragedy, the European Union called on those responsible for the brutal terrorist attack to be held accountable.
