Due to financial problems, the eight coal businesses of the Russian region have stopped their work, and the miners have not been receiving salaries for months.
Western penalties against Russia’s coal and search difficulties for Asian consumers have joined a major Kemerovo crisis – the main region of Russian coal, providing nearly 60% of total coal making and 80% coking. About this writes Moscow Times on Monday, March 3.
Due to financial problems, the eight coal businesses of the Russian region have stopped their work, and the miners have not been receiving salaries for months. The Governor of Kuzbass Ilya SEREDYUK said this.
“We work in the most important conditions. The penalties of western countries have changed the structure of our export and that is imported. A collapse in prices in world markets, coal -removal problems, lack of personnel and a high key rate has become a serious challenge for the coal industry. Many businesses have been recorded negative profitability,” Seyyduk said. “
According to him, the total salary debt to miners reached 220 million rubles.
Russian coal miners, which have been cut off from western markets, have difficulties in Asia. In 2023, India reduced Russian coal imports by 37%, and China – the largest consumer – by 13%. Total coal export from Kuzbass for the year has dropped by 10.4%, and production reduced 7.3% to 198.4 million tons.
Due to the crisis, the budget of the Kemerovo region did not receive 58 billion rubles of tax revenues, the governor emphasized.
