Baku hopes the agreement will raise the country’s cooperation with Europe to a higher level.

“In the near future, an important document will be signed between the European Union and Azerbaijan – an energy security document, which will raise our cooperation to a higher level,” Aliyev said at a meeting following the results of first half of the year.
He recalled his repeated meetings and telephone conversations with the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, and noted that the main topic of discussion was the normalization of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations.
On the eve of the media reported that the European Commission invited EU countries to conclude an agreement with Azerbaijan to increase imports of natural gas and expand the pipeline. The document states that the EU plans to import through the Southern Gas Corridor at least 20 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan annually until 2027 “according to commercial feasibility and market demand.”
