An awards ceremony was held at the Embassy of the French Republic in Kyiv, where Ukrainian politicians and the French Ambassador greeted the writer.
Ukrainian writer Lina Kostenko became Chevalier of the Order of the Legion of Honor. This is the highest award in France, awarded by the President of the Republic for military or civilian merit.
This was stated by Minister of Culture and Information Policy Alexander Tkachenko today, July 14.
“I am proud to be with you at the same time,” the officer said.
In addition, the day for the presentation was chosen for a reason. Today, 14th July, is France’s National Day. The award was presented to Kostenko by the French Ambassador to Ukraine, Etienne de Pons.
Also, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, joined in the greeting.
“For me, Lina Vasilievna is the personification of the spirit and dignity of Ukrainian citizens. Someone who never broke down under times and circumstances, and did not change his principles., And this is very important”, – said by Klitschko.
Line Kostenko is an honorary professor of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy, and an honorary doctor of Lviv and Chernivtsi universities. During the Soviet era, he actively participated in the dissident movement.
In 2005, Lina Kostenko was denied the title of Hero of Ukraine. He emphasized that poets only need one word to communicate with people. In recent years, Lina Kostenko has hardly appeared in public.
