British prime minister Cyrus Starmer will visit Washington next week to meet US president Donald Trump. The British government aims to strengthen the “special relations” between countries, Dauning Street said. This is known by The Independent on Monday, February 17.
Trump confirmed the upcoming meeting, noticing that he would be “friendly and constructive.” At the same time, in relationships between the two countries there are several challenges, in particular, due to the disagreement of Ukraine’s support, the future of NATO and possible trade duties.
At a security conference in Munich, United States vice president Jay Di not criticized the British government for persecution of ex-military judicial judicials, who “prayed near the abortion clinic.” He said it “slightly expands offensive of democratic values in Europe.” Subsequently, in London they denied American side statements about the alleged persecution of activists.
Starmer is expected to discuss economic issues and security issues with Trump on visit. London also emphasized that the Mauritius agreement on the transfer of sovereignty to the islands of chagos would not affect the functioning of the Diego-Garcia military base used by the United States.
It is noted that British officials are hoping to avoid economic losses due to the possible introduction of new trade duties. In particular, financial minister Rachel Reeves is convinced that Britain can reduce their influence, as it has no trade shortage in the United States.
Earlier, Cyrus Starmer said he was willing to introduce British troops to Ukraine to ensure the implementation of any peace agreements.
