This is expected to close some holes in previous penalty packages. Russia’s gold ban is also included.

It was found that the European Union could introduce the seventh package of anti-Russian sanctions within a week. New rules should close old holes. This was reported by EURACTIV.

According to the publication, the preparation of the seventh package of sanctions will take place on July 14 and 15, and member states may approve it on July 20.

The so-called implementation package would include a ban on Russia’s gold imports, which are the country’s largest non-energy export.

The move was agreed at the G7 summit last month by EU members France, Germany and Italy along with their counterparts in the US, Canadian, Japanese and UK.

The package also introduces new personal sanctions against individuals and entities associated with Putin’s broader circle.

Recall that since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the EU has agreed on six packages of sanctions, which include the freezing of assets and a ban on the issuance of visas to Russian oligarchs and officials, export controls, freezing of central bank assets, disconnecting banks from the SWIFT system, and banning Russia’s oil and coal imports.
