The country’s self -led leader called it an attempt to develop a new democratic state system and varying the economy.
Venezuela’s formal leader Nicolas Maduro suggested to change the country’s constitution, calling this impetus to a change in the territorial division and the economic diversity. This was announced on February 16 by Bloomberg.
“This is an attempt to produce a new system of democratic state, including communal, social and popular authorities. We must promote even in the development of a new diversion -a variety of economics,” Maduro said before the National Assembly which is controlled by the government.
It was noted that Maduro’s proposal would include territorial units known as Communes, which would potentially change regional policy and the reduction of municipalities and states. According to some observers, this is a way of further integration -with power after the venezuelan opposition accused him of stealing the president’s election in July.
If two -thirds of lawmakers receive reforms, the next step will be public consultations within 30 days. The previous attempt by the deceased Hugo Chavez to change the Constitution of Venezuela in 1999 did not get a sufficient number of votes in the 2007 referendum.
Remember, on July 28, 2024, the president’s election was held in Venezuela. The country’s National Electoral Council announced Maduro’s success with 51.2% of the vote. Opposition representatives said Edmund Gonzalez Urrutia won the election with 73% of the vote.
After the announcement of election results in the country, the protests began. The US government recognized the winner of Gonzalez.
