European countries can send a much smaller number of peacekeepers to Ukraine than necessary.
The continent will be able to provide up to 25,000 soldiers for a possible peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. This amount will not be enough for effective tasks. Analysts calculated that at least 120,000 military personnel are required to perform the operation. This was reported by Welt.de.
It is also noted that the leadership of the North Atlantic Alliance doubts that European countries can provide such a contingent on their own.
In addition, the topic for a separate discussion remains the mandate of peacekeepers. The European Union believes that such a mission will be ineffective if these fighters are not allowed to use heavy weapons, if necessary.
Meanwhile, in Munich, the German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that in the coming years, Europe would not be able to ensure the security of Ukraine without the United States.
On the eve of President Volodymyr Zelensky said that, according to the Ukrainian military, in order to ensure peace in Ukraine, it is necessary to place a peacekeeping contingent of 100,000 soldiers.
We recall that recently the German Chancellor Olaf Sholts said that it was still too early to discuss the idea of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine.
