Ukraine’s leadership should “show interest” and cancel the prohibition of legislation with Putin contacts, Dmitry Peskov says.
Russia has not refused negotiations with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, though it is considered “illegal.” This was said by the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov spokesman on Wednesday, February 5.
“Pan Zelensky has a major problem with the legal plan – it remembers its legitimacy, but even when it is given, Russia’s side remains open for negotiations,” he said.
According to Peskov, Ukraine’s leadership should “show interest” and cancel the prohibition of legislation with Putin contacts. Otherwise, the Kremlin will not take Zelensky’s statements about being prepared for direct talk.
“Preparation should be based on one thing … It cannot be based on the prohibition of the legislation of such negotiations for Zelensky. Therefore, to this day, except for empty words, it is impossible to see,” Peskov said.
Answering the question, if Putin considers Zelensky an enemy, the spokesman said “cannot and should not be a place for emotions – legal examination and severe pragmatism.”
Earlier, Vladimir Zelensky said he was ready to sit with Putin at the negotiation table, if necessary to complete the war in Ukraine.
Zelensky also said that negotiations at the end of the war between Russia and Ukraine must first take place with the leaders of the United States and the EU, and then with Putin.
