The parliament of Georgia, whose legitimacy is not recognized by the fifth president of the country Salomi Zurabishvili, the opposition and a large part of the Georgian public, terminated the powers of 49 deputies.
This was reported about the publication “Echo of the Caudasus”.
In particular, the powers of members of the opposition “Unity – National Movement”, “Coalition for Changes” and “Strong Georgia” were discontinued.
It is noted that the basis for making the relevant decision was their requirement to terminate the powers that they previously applied in parliament:
- According to the final protocol of the Georgian CEC, according to the results of the parliamentary elections in 2024, “strong Georgia” received 14 seats, the “coalition for changes” – 19 and “unity – national movement” – 16 seats;
- Representatives of the three opposition associations in November and December 2024 wrote statements about the early termination of the powers of parliamentary deputies.
At this stage, the opposition party “Gahara for Georgia” remains in parliament with 12 places.
The political association of the former prime minister George Gakhary, like other aspects that overcame the passing barrier on October 26, calls the results of the voting of the illegal, and does not participate in parliamentary activities, but representatives of this political association were not applied about the cessation of their strength.
Since November 2024, protests have been held in Georgia requiring new parliamentary elections.
