Bulgaria has received its own 1st F-16 block 70 fighter from the United States. This was reported by the Bulgaria Ministry of Defense on Saturday, February 1.
The ceremony took place at the Lockheed Martin factory in Greenville (South Carolina) along with the participation of Bulgaria representatives, US manufacturers and officials.
It is indicated that with the receipt of the F-16 Block 70, the Bulgarian Air Force will receive new opportunities that allow them to achieve complete operational compatibility with NATO and EU allies.
Under two contracts signed in 2019 and 2022, Bulgaria will receive a full -fledged squadron – 16 fighters. The project was implemented in two stages, each involved in purchasing eight F-16 Block 70 aircraft.
As part of the two contracts, 32 Bulgaria pilots will be trained in the United States. Engineering and technical staff have begun training.
