In the city of Asseni, unknown thieves have stolen rare archaeological exhibits from the Drenthe Museum, including a golden Cotofeneshti gold helmet since the 4th century BC.
The unique archaeological exhibits were stolen from the Drenthe Historical Museum, located in Asseni’s Dutch City, the night from Friday to Saturday.
According to the museum’s press service, the attacks stole four objects, including the golden helmet of the Cotofenesti (Circa 450 BC) from the collection of the National Historical Museum of Romania and three bracelets.
The robbery happened at 03:45 am. Police received a report of an explosion, which, according to preliminary information, was used to open the door. The explosion caused great damage to the museum area, but, fortunately, no one was injured.
Archeology masterpieces are part of the Dacia – Empire of Gold and Silver Exhibition, which shows the riches of ancient history.
So far criminals have not been found. Police are conducting an active investigation: studying surveillance camera footage, conducting searches in nearby homes and cooperation with Interpol to monitor possible routes for removing stolen artifacts.
