The Mastiff PPV armored car is a British version of the Cougar machine of the American company Force Protection Industries. It belongs to special vehicles with increased mine protection (MRAP). These cars are off-road patrol armored vehicles not only for urban conditions, but also for cross-country travel.
Their main feature is increased resistance to the impressive action of improvised explosive devices and mines, provided by reinforced V-shaped bottom armor.
The UK announced its intention to transfer Mastiff PPV to Ukraine in early April.
The armored vehicle is equipped with reinforced seat armor to protect the military in the event of a collision with obstacles or mine explosions. The hull armor contains the unique Dyneema Unidirectional (UD), a special material that is used to improve protection and flexibility. It improves vehicle protection against mines, fire or explosions.
Dyneema UD armor is manufactured by DSM Dyneema, which has specifically developed it to provide greater security for military vehicles.
The standard booking of the Mastiff PPV armored car provides protection for the crew and troops from small arms with a caliber of 7.62 mm; when installing additional booking, protection against balls with a caliber of up to 12.7 mm is provided.
