Upon leaving the Oval Office, the 46th president wrote a letter of warm congratulations to his successor.
US President Donald Trump revealed the contents of a letter that former President Joe Biden left for him on his desk in the Oval Office before leaving the White House. It was reported on Wednesday, January 22, by the Fox News channel, which has the text of the message.
“As I leave this holy office, I wish you and your family all the best for the next four years. Americans and people around the world look to this house (White – ed.) for stability in the inevitable storms of history, and I pray that the coming years will be a time of prosperity, peace and grace for our country may God bless and guide you as He blesses and leads our beloved country since establish it,” President Biden wrote to his successor.
Trump found the letter in his desk drawer after reporters asked if Biden had left him a letter.
“Maybe. Don’t they leave it on the table? I don’t know,” Trump said before finding the envelope on the table. He thanked reporters and said: “It could have been months before we found him.”
The farewell letter is one of the modern traditions – on the day of the inauguration, the outgoing president writes a note with best wishes to his successor. Usually the letter is left on the table for the new head of state to read upon entering the Oval Office.
It was previously reported that Biden planned to write a letter to Trump before leaving office.
Let’s remember that four years ago, Biden also received a farewell letter from Trump. He called it “generous.”
