The restrictions will not apply to people who have received EU permanent resident status or have a permanent residence permit in the country.
The Latvian Seimas will consider a bill limiting agreements that threaten national security. The document prohibits the purchase of real estate by citizens of Russia and Belarus. This was reported by the Baltic publication Delfi.
The initiator of the bill is the parliamentary faction of the New Unity. The purpose of the bill is to prevent activities that are harmful and dangerous from the point of view of state interests, and also not to allow sanctions to be avoided.
The document concerns both citizens of the aggressor countries and legal entities created in Russia and Belarus, as well as those whose real beneficiaries are citizens of these states.
Restrictions will not apply to persons who have received the status of a permanent resident of the European Union or a permit for permanent residence in Latvia in accordance with the requirements of the law About immigration.
“In the context of the hybrid war, in order to protect a democratic rule-of-law state and strengthen the security of our country, it is necessary to integrate the necessary legal regulatory tools of Russia and Belarus into our internal affairs,” explained of the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Justice Lauma Paegkalna.
Let’s recall that in Latvia on December 17, a partial review of the combat readiness of the units of the National Armed Forces (NAF) was announced. The combat readiness test is planned in advance, but unexpected for the units participating in it.
