Joe Biden pardoned members of his family in his final moments as US president.
The White House announced these pardons at the last moment – less than 20 minutes before the end of his presidential term. The former head of the United States, by his decision, pardoned his brother James B. Biden, his wife Sarah Jones Biden, his sister Valerie Biden Owens, her husband. John T. Owens and another brother Francis W. Biden.
My family is subject to constant attacks and threats motivated solely by the desire to hurt me – this is the worst kind of party politics. Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe that these attacks will stop, Biden said in a statement.
According to the pardon document, Biden will pardon his relatives for “any non-violent crimes against the United States that they may have committed or participated in between January 1, 2014 and the date of this pardon.”
Let us recall that on January 20, Joe Biden, a few hours before the end of his term, decided to pardon a number of officials of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, Dr. Anton Fouch, members and employees of the commission that investigated the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, as well as members of the US Capitol Police and the District of Columbia metropolitan area, who testified before this commission.
