The militants gave the three hostages, aged 31, 28 and 24, to the Red Cross to return to Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the return of three Israeli women from Hamas captivity an incredibly moving event and said Romi Gonen, Emily Damari and Doron Steinbrecher were “welcomed by the whole country.” The Times of Israel writes about this on Sunday, January 19.
Netanyahu emphasized that the three women were “the first prisoners to return home in this round.”
“I know – we all know they’ve been through hell. They’re coming out of darkness into light, they’re truly coming out of slavery for freedom. This moment has been achieved through the sacrifice and courage of our brave warriors. It’s a great moment, an emotional moment,” said the Israeli Prime Minister.
Earlier, journalists learned that three women held by Hamas since October 7, 2023, received “gift bags” from members of the terrorist group before being handed over to Red Cross workers.
The militants “showed” them photos taken in captivity and a “certificate.”
