German peacekeepers can be stationed on the territory of Ukraine.
The German military could take part in ensuring the security of the demilitarized zone in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire. This statement was made by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, answering a question about the possible deployment of Bundeswehr troops in the buffer zone between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. The Süddeutsche Zeitung writes about this.
The head of the defense department added that this “will be discussed when the time comes.” And he emphasized that Germany is NATO’s largest partner in Europe, and therefore will “play a certain role and must take responsibility.”
Pistorius believes the key is how to create a level of security for Ukraine that would prevent another Russian attack in a few years. He also said that he would soon travel to the United States to communicate with the administration of US President-elect Donald Trump.
Let us remind you that a new large formation is being created within the structure of the German Bundeswehr – a territorial defense division, which should protect objects inside Germany if other ground forces are transferred to NATO’s eastern flank.
