The seventh test flight of the Starship rocket, SpaceX’s project to create a reusable space transportation system, ended in failure.
This was reported on the SpaceX website.
The rocket launched from the Boca Chica launch site in Texas (USA):
- her first reusable Super Heavy stage with 33 Raptor engines launched the ship into orbit before returning to earth and landing on the launch pad;
- the upper stage separated in the sky, all six Raptor engines turned on, but subsequently lost contact with the ship.
Towards the end of the launch, telemetry with the rocket was lost after about eight and a half minutes of flight. Initial data indicates that a fire broke out in the aft part of the ship, which led to rapid, unplanned destruction, the company said.
It is noted that this Starship launch, like the previous ones, took place within a certain corridor, and the debris had to fall in a certain danger zone.
The causes of the accident are being established.
SpaceX noted that the ship and launch vehicle for the eighth test flight of Starship have already been built and are undergoing pre-launch tests.
