India surpasses the current leader, China, in terms of population next year, the UN also predicts.
The world population will reach eight billion by November 15, 2022. This is stated in the UN report, published on Monday, July 11.
The document also said that India will surpass China as the most populous country in the world by 2023.
The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs forecast is that the world’s population is now growing at the slowest rate since 1950.
It should reach 8.5 billion in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050. Thus, it will reach only 10.4 billion people in the 2080s.
A net decrease in fertility rates has been observed in some developing countries. Almost half of the expected world population growth in the coming decades is concentrated in eight countries: the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Tanzania.
Remember, sociologists believe that because of the war, the population of Ukraine could be reduced to 30 million people.
According to the UN, the number of refugees from Ukraine who have received temporary protection status in European countries has reached 3.407 million. Several million more citizens are abroad without refugee status.
