In his final week as US President, Joe Biden delivered his final speech at the US State Department to outline his administration’s most significant foreign policy achievements.
Putin failed. He could not destroy Ukraine, he could not destroy NATO, he could not seize most of the territories. “We united 50 countries in support of Ukraine, we provided an extraordinary amount of ammunition, we implemented unprecedented sanctions to ensure that Ukraine continued to fight,” he noted.
Biden said he was the only American commander in chief to visit a country at war without a U.S. military presence. He also noted that Putin thought that in three days he would capture Kyiv, but since then it was Biden who was in the center of Kyiv, not him.
I am the first president in decades not to hand over the war in Afghanistan to his successor.
Sanctions help contain Russia. Russia is losing equipment on the battlefield, the Russian ruble is going through difficult times, the American president said.
He recalled that US opponents are weaker than when his administration came to power four years ago.
The United States and allies cannot afford to abandon support for Ukraine, Biden said.
As a reminder, Donald Trump will be inaugurated on January 20.
