The Chinese ship Yi Peng 3 damaged and cut cables between Sweden and Lithuania, Germany and Finland on November 17 and 18 while anchored about 160 km off the coast.

Swedish Defense Minister Karl-Oskar Bohlin said another cable in the Baltic Sea – Nordbalt – between Sweden and Lithuania was found to have anchor damage. SVT reported it.

He said the damage was likely caused by the Chinese ship Yi Peng 3. The ship damaged and cut cables between Sweden and Lithuania, Germany and Finland on November 17 and 18 while anchored 160 km away in far away

Law enforcement officials are investigating the incident. In their opinion, the ship did this on purpose, because the captain was recruited by the Russian intelligence services. On December 25, one of the power cables between Estonia and Finland was cut by the Eagle S tanker, suspected of belonging to the Russian “shadow fleet”.

Bolin noted that all these incidents may be related to the disconnection of the Baltic countries from the Belarusian-Russian power grid in February.

“What the Swedish media reported shows that we cannot believe that what is happening in the Baltic Sea is an accident. We must take seriously these cases of sabotage or attempts to sabotage this infrastructure. And it shows that a rapid reaction from NATO is necessary to protect the interests of our consumers and our entire infrastructure, as well as the electricity market and price stability,” Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Energy Arnoldas Pikžirnis commented on the incident in an interview with LRT .

As Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said, Sweden is not at war, but it is not living in peacetime either. He noted that for the first time Sweden is providing resources to NATO forces, and also for the first time NATO forces will monitor the Baltic Sea and the entire region due to the increased threat to infrastructure.

Let’s recall that at the end of December, damage was recorded to four underwater communication cables in the Baltic Sea.

On December 26, Finland detained the ship Eagle S because one of the communication cables was cut. The ship may be part of the “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation. According to media reports, spy equipment was found here.
