In Tatarstan, the Taneco oil refinery, one of the largest and most modern refineries in Russia, was hit.
The head of the Center for Combating Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Andrey Kovalenko, announced this today, January 11, in his Telegram channel.
The plant plays a key role in providing fuel to the Russian army. Knocking out refineries and oil depots directly affects Russia’s ability to wage an intensive war, he emphasized.
Kovalenko noted that the plant is located at a distance of more than 1 thousand km from the front. A previous drone attack on a refinery in the spring of 2024 damaged a primary processing unit at the refinery.
Russian Telegram channels reported today that workers were evacuated from the Taneco plant after a UAV threat. There were also reports of smoke at the plant.
Subsequently, local authorities stated that “exercises” were supposedly taking place at the plant, and the observed fire was “technical illumination of industrial facilities.”
