Judge Juan Merchan has ruled that Donald Trump is avoiding jail time and fines in the case of paying porn actress Stormy Daniels for silence. Sky News reported this.
An acquittal, also known as an unconditional release, means the future president will avoid jail time, probation and fines.
In explaining his decision, Judge Merchan noted that the protection mechanisms that apply to the office of the President are “an overriding factor.”
“Donald Trump, if he is an ordinary citizen, Donald Trump, charged with any criminal act, does not deserve such a significant relief,” he added.
At the end of the sentencing procedure, the judge wished Trump good luck in his second term as president.
Trump took part in the hearing via video link, and in his speech criticized the court as a “witch hunt” and called the trial the “worst experience” of his life.
Earlier, the US Federal Court of Appeal confirmed the decision of the civil court of first instance on the liability of Donald Trump in the case of sexualized actions against journalist Jean Carroll.
