Belarus hopes that neighboring states will not create “obstacles for citizens of Belarus to cross the border to exercise their voting rights.”
The head of Belarus’s Central Election Commission, Igor Karpenko, said his country would not open voting stations abroad due to a “lack of proper security measures.” He said this at a press conference, BelTa reports.
“Belarus does not create polling stations abroad, this legislative change is due to the lack of security measures at polling stations previously created on the territory of other states, and a reduction in the number of employees of the diplomatic corps.
Karpenko hopes that neighboring states will not create “obstacles for citizens of Belarus to cross the border to exercise their voting rights.”
He said that the conditions were created on the territory of Belarus itself to organize voting for citizens permanently living abroad. They will be able to vote at one of six polling stations, located in Minsk and five regional centers.
We remind you that the Central Election Commission of Belarus has registered five candidates for the presidential elections. Among them is the self-proclaimed president of the country, Alexander Lukashenko.
