The former German chancellor believes that the war on Ukraine’s territory can be ended only through negotiations.
Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has refused to sever ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin. On Sunday, July 10, Spiegel wrote.
“I will not give my chances to talk to President Putin,” he said.
At the same time, he said he did not believe the war could be ended by the military – he believed it could only be done through negotiations.
“The only way to end the war is through diplomatic negotiations. The fate of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians can be alleviated only through diplomacy,” Schroeder said.
Schroeder also clarified in an interview that, in his opinion, the negotiations have failed so far, allegedly because of Ukraine. He also noted that Putin, in his opinion, was interested in a solution through negotiations.
In March, the newspaper Politico, citing its own sources, reported that Schroeder had arrived in Moscow to meet with Putin “as part of efforts by the ex-chancellor” to resolve the situation in Ukraine. .
Bild then wrote that Schroeder also met in Moscow with businessman Roman Abramovich and presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky.
Recall that the European Parliament recommended the imposition of sanctions against Schroeder. But the acting Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz, has already spoken out against it.
