Serbia will still be able to buy spare parts for Soviet and Russian-made equipment, but new supplies will no longer be available.
Russia is losing the arms market to Serbia, one of the few countries in Europe that has continued to buy Russian weapons even after the sanctions began. Russian media reported it.
Chief of the Serbian General Staff Milan Mojsilović said that the country has terminated several contracts for the supply of Russian arms due to the impossibility of fulfilling the agreements under Western sanctions.
Serbia will still be able to buy spare parts for Soviet and Russian-made equipment, but new supplies will no longer be available.
In August, Belgrade canceled agreements to buy Russian fighters and chose 12 French Rafales for 2.7 billion euros to replace older MiG-29s.
The decision is part of a radical modernization of Serbia’s air force, including pilot retraining and infrastructure upgrades. According to Mojsilovich, the French fighters will meet the long-term needs of the army.
We remind you that the President of Serbia has announced a course towards the EU.
At the same time, Serbia is negotiating with Russia to extend the contract for the supply of natural gas, which expires in March, and aims to maintain supply volumes at the level of the current agreement with Gazprom.
