Kelin Georgescu, who manipulated through Tiktok, which led to the cancellation of the elections, published a statement on his FB page where he self-proclaimed himself “the elected President of Romania” and called on government institutions to eliminate the current President Iohannis and declared the Ciolaku government illegitimate.
In his statement, Georgescu noted that parliament should immediately cancel Iohannis’ “dictatorial mandate” and the Prosecutor General’s Office should investigate election fraud, in which, according to him, the majority parties – PSD, PNL, President Iohannis and the Constitutional Court – took part.
The ombudsman, Georgescu said, must intervene to restore the rule of law or resign.
Ciolaku Djerjescu called the government “illegal, illegitimate and immoral,” as well as President Iohannis.
Georgescu promised to eliminate the “political pack” that is destroying democracy and the rights of the Romanian people.
Earlier, Georgescu appealed to the European Court of Human Rights to oblige Romania to hold a second round of voting. The pro-Western Elena Lasconi also went there at the end of November 2024.
Bucharest violated people’s right to free elections and a fair trial, the politician believes.
Pro-government presidential candidate in Romania Crin Antonescu suspended his election campaign.
This is because the coalition has not yet unanimously approved his candidacy, and the exact date of the presidential elections is unknown.
According to Antonescu, he expects responsible behavior from the Romanian government. In particular, this concerns explanations of “what happened in Romania with the cancellation of the first round of voting” in order to “ensure that there is still democracy in this country.”
In December, Romania’s Constitutional Court annulled the results of the first round of the presidential election due to a manipulative campaign by far-right candidate Kelin Georgescu.
The ruling coalition has scheduled the first round of elections for March 23, 2025, and the second for April 6.
The pro-European coalition has publicly stated that it supports Antonescu from the National Liberal Party of Romania as the only candidate.
