Syrian rebels pretend women don’t exist.
Thus, German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock was blurred out in a photo of a meeting with representatives of the new Syrian authorities. Earlier in the meeting, the new Syrian leader did not shake her hand.
This was reported by “Public” with reference to the German publication NTV.
Annalena Berbock and his French colleague Jean-Noel Barrault visited Damascus on January 3. They became the first European Union officials to visit Syria since the overthrow of dictator Bashar al-Assad.
After the meeting, Syrian rebel resources published photos of the measures, but Berbock was blurred in all the photos. Other women caught in the lens also got lost. These are probably two translators.
During Burbock’s visit to Damascus with the leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed al-Sharaa did not press her hand, but shook hands with the men. However, instead of shaking hands, he put his hand on his heart.
According to NTV, the Koran does not say that a handshake between men and women is prohibited. Religious Muslims believe that touching parts of the body that are not subject to mandatory covering is permitted. Others believe that shaking hands with a woman is the first step to “fornication.”
During her visit to Damascus, Burbock said the defense of women’s rights is an indicator of whether a new political beginning is possible in relations between Europe and Syria.
