Exchanges in 2025 should be systematic, with priority given to returning, first of all, the seriously ill and seriously injured.
Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets reported that there is a preliminary agreement on the Russian side that the exchanges will be systematic by 2025. The Ombudsman announced this on Telegram on Monday, January 6.
“There is now a preliminary agreement that exchanges by 2025 should be systematic, with priority given to returning, first of all, the seriously ill and seriously injured,” he wrote.
According to the Ombudsman, a preliminary agreement was also reached “that every Ukrainian prisoner of war and civilian hostage will receive a package of assets from Ukraine with the help of the ICRC.”
“We will see if the Russian side keeps its word,” Lubinets said.
We remind you that on New Year’s Eve, Ukraine released 189 defenders from Russian captivity. Among the released military personnel there are defenders of Azovstal and Mariupol, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Zmeiny Island, from different directions of the front.
According to President Vladimir Zelensky, in 2024, 1,358 Ukrainians were returned from captivity in Russia. In total, 3,956 Ukrainians have returned from Russian captivity since the beginning of the general invasion.
