The newly elected speaker won thanks to two congressmen – Ralph Norman and Keith Self.
The US House of Representatives has endorsed Mike Johnson for Speaker. Almost all Republicans in the lower house of Congress voted for him, The New York Times reported on Friday, January 3.
Johnson received the 218 necessary congressional votes to become Speaker of the US House of Representatives. While his counterpart, Hakeem Jeffries, the leader of the Democratic minority in the House of Representatives, received 215 votes.
Johnson got this number of votes thanks to congressmen Ralph Norman and Keith Self, who decided to support his candidacy, even though they previously voted for other candidates.
Let’s recall that in early December, Mike Johnson said that before the inauguration of Donald Trump, he did not plan to raise the issue of additional aid to Ukraine proposed by the White House.
