South Korean authorities were unable to arrest President Yoon Suk-yol to execute his arrest warrant due to presidential security obstruction of police officers and investigators.
It is also reported that the president’s supporters gathered at dawn near his residence – they promised to block any attempt to arrest Yoon Suk Yol.
His personal security prevented him from being arrested. Investigators from the government’s anti-corruption agency entered the residence of the president, who was impeached under martial law, to execute an arrest warrant. However, security prevented them.
Yoon Seok Yol is considered temporarily suspended until the end of the court hearing and is under the protection of the Presidential Security Service. Investigators must execute the arrest warrant by January 6th.
On December 3, Yoon Seok-yol declared a state of martial law in the country, calling the opposition an “anti-state force” and saying he was acting to protect the country from “threats” from North Korea, without providing details. Prosecutors are investigating allegations of treason and abuse of power against the current president. Amid the investigation, he was banned from leaving the country.
