A government spokesman commented on the Trump ally’s statements in support of Germany’s far-right AfD party.
The German government has accused American businessman Elon Musk of trying to interfere in the country’s election campaign. The reason is the billionaire’s repeated support for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, The Guardian reported on Monday, December 30.
It was noted that the spokeswoman for the German government, Christiane Hoffmann, accused Musk of trying to influence the federal election.
The reason was Musk’s post on the social network X and an article in support of the anti-Muslim and anti-migration Alternative for Germany.
In a regular media briefing, he noted that Musk has a right to free speech, but questioned his conclusions.
Goffman said Musk had a right to free speech, adding: “At the end of the day, freedom of opinion amounts to the greatest nonsense.”
Earlier, Musk’s article caused a storm of criticism from German politicians. It has been called election interference, support for an anti-democratic party and a threat to democratic discourse in the country.
