Another 189 Ukrainians were returned from Russian captivity.
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War announced this today, December 30, in their Telegram channels.
Among the military released from captivity were 173 privates and sergeants and 14 officers:
- 87 military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (17 of them are Troops);
- 43 – NSU;
- 33 – GNSU;
- 24 – Navy.
Two civilians captured in Mariupol also returned from captivity.
In addition to Mariupol and Snake Island, those dismissed defended Ukraine in the Donetsk, Lugansk, Kharkov, Zaporozhye, and Kherson directions, and the National Guard served as guards at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. We also returned those captured in the Kursk region,” noted the Coordination Headquarters.
It is noted that many Ukrainians were in Russian captivity for more than two and a half years – the defenders have acute chronic illnesses, consequences of mine explosion injuries, and serious injuries.
The exchange took place with the assistance of the United Arab Emirates.
In total, during the work of the Coordination Headquarters created on the shore in 2022, 3 thousand 956 people have already returned, of which 1 thousand 358 in 2024.
