At the bottom of the bay they found a trace from an anchor, stretching several tens, if not a hundred kilometers. Police believe it was left behind by the Russian shadow fleet tanker Eagle S.

At the bottom of the Gulf of Finland, a trace of an anchor that dragged many tens of kilometers long was discovered. Police suspect that the Russian vessel Eagle S may have damaged the power cable between Estonia and Finland. Yle reported this on Sunday, December 20.

The trail stretches for tens of kilometers in length. However, it is not yet possible to determine exactly where the anchor was dropped, police said in a statement.

“The trail ends where the ship lifted the anchor chain, and from this place to the east it stretches for several tens, if not almost a hundred kilometers,” police inspector Sami Payla told Yle .

He noted that the Central Criminal Police already has a preliminary understanding of what happened.

“We assume that the drag mark is the anchor wake of the Eagle S. We found this out through underwater research,” Payla added.

According to him, the research below has been suspended due to strong winds, but they will soon resume.

We remind you that on December 25, damage was discovered on the Estlink 2 power cable running between Estonia and Finland. And the next day it became known that three more cables in the Baltic had been damaged.

The Eagle S tanker, which may be part of the Russian Federation’s “shadow fleet”, is suspected of being involved in the damage to the power cables. According to media reports, spy equipment was discovered on this ship.
