Russia should immediately admit its guilt and apologize to Azerbaijan, the president said.
Russia wants to “silence” the issue of the causes of the accident of an Azerbaijan Arilines passenger plane in Aktau, Kazakh. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said this in an interview with Caliber on Sunday, December 29.
“The fact is that an Azerbaijani civilian aircraft was damaged from outside on Russian territory, near the city of Grozny, and almost lost control,” he said.
According to the President of Azerbaijan, the plane was rendered uncontrollable by electronic warfare equipment, which was the first damage sustained to the airliner. Then, as a result of fire that opened from the ground, the tail section of the aircraft was seriously damaged.
“One of the things that angers and surprises us is that Russian official structures have put forward versions about the explosion of some gas cylinders. That is, it has openly shown that the Russian side wants to silence the issue,” he said.
Aliyev stressed that it was clear that the plane was shot down accidentally, but the Russian side should have immediately admitted their guilt and apologized to Azerbaijan.
“Unfortunately, in the first three days we heard nothing from Russia except delusional versions,” the president emphasized.
We remind you that on December 25, an Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed in Kazakhstan on a Baku-Grozny flight. 38 people were killed, mostly citizens of Azerbaijan.
Later, the media reported that the plane was attacked on approach to Grozny by a missile from the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft complex. After that, the Russians banned the crew from landing at Russian airfields and jammed electronic warfare communications.
On December 28, Russian leader Vladimir Putin called Aliyev and apologized for the “tragic incident in Russian airspace.”
