The route will allow the delivery of goods from China to Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia, and from there to Turkey and beyond to the European Union.
Construction has begun on a railway between China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, bypassing Russia. The Kyrgyz publication Tazabek reported this on Friday, December 27.
“The new railway corridor China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan will be a branch of the “southern bridge” of the Eurasian continent and will open access to the markets of Western Asia and the Middle East,” Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov said at the launch ceremony the construction of the railway.
According to him, the new route will allow cargo to be delivered from China to Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia, and from there to Turkey and beyond the European Union.
“The project will serve to strengthen regional connections and diversify transport routes, which will increase the competitiveness of the region as a transport transit hub,” Japarov stressed.
This railway will run from Kashgar in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region through Torugart, Makmal and Jalal-Abad in Kyrgyzstan to Andijan in Uzbekistan. It is planned that it will be more connected to other countries of Central Asia, where cargo will be sent to the Caspian Sea, Turkey and Europe.
It was previously reported that Russian railways were experiencing a record decline for 16 years. Russia faces major challenges in shipping goods to China via its eastern rail network, signaling a deepening economic crisis caused by the war and sanctions.
