South Korean intelligence confirmed the capture of a wounded North Korean soldier by Ukraine.
This was reported by the South Korean agency Yonhap.
Through real-time information exchange with a friendly country’s intelligence organization (we), we have confirmed the capture of a wounded North Korean soldier and plan to carefully study further developments, South Korea’s intelligence service said in a short statement.
This confirmation came after yesterday, December 26, the Ukrainian military portal “Military” reported about the probable capture of a North Korean soldier by the Ukrainian military during an operation in the Kursk region, without specifying when exactly this incident occurred.
A photo of a supposedly captured North Korean soldier, who appears to have been wounded, was circulated on the Telegram social network. It was reported that Ukrainian special forces also took as trophies a Russian armored personnel carrier BTR-82, weapons, documents, etc.
Thus, this is the first known case in which Ukraine captured a North Korean soldier participating in hostilities.
About 11,000 North Korean troops have been sent to Russia, South Korean officials said, and there are signs of preparations for further deployments of troops and military equipment. On December 23, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that the number of killed and wounded North Korean military personnel in the Kursk region exceeded 3 thousand people.
