Ukraine received from Latvia confiscated cars taken from drunk drivers.
Latvia handed over to Ukraine cars confiscated from drunk drivers for a total amount of 2.25 million euros. Only 612 cars were transferred to Kyiv. This was reported by Delfi with reference to the State Revenue Service (VID).
It is noted that on February 16, 2023, the Latvian Seimas unanimously adopted urgent amendments to the law on supporting Ukrainian civilians. These changes to the law make it possible to transfer to Ukraine cars that are in the ownership of the Latvian state. These cars include vehicles confiscated from drivers who got behind the wheel while intoxicated.
Since the above changes to the law came into force, the Latvian government has made several decisions to transfer confiscated cars to Ukraine.
Let us remind you that on September 5, the Latvian Seimas adopted in the first reading a bill banning the use of cars with Belarusian registration numbers in the country from November 1. The ban does not apply only to motorists with limited mobility who come to visit relatives in Latvia, as well as “special security-related cases.”
