A fire broke out in the Eiffel Tower in Paris on December 24. All people were evacuated.
Rescuers arrived at the scene and began fighting the fire, and tourists were taken away from the famous symbol of the French capital.
According to French media, the Eiffel Tower is closed. The fire is believed to have started in the elevator shaft between the first and second floors of the tower. One eyewitness wrote on social network X:
The Eiffel Tower is currently on fire. The monument has just been evacuated. The rescue service has set up a cordon, but firefighters cannot reach the fire.
A journalist for Boulevard Voltaire reported:
Approximately 1 thousand 200 people were evacuated. Firefighters determined that the cause of the fire was overheating of the cable.
It is reported that the fire has now been brought under control and extinguished. The fire was probably caused by overheating of a device near the cable of one of the elevators.
