The newly appointed head of the Syrian Foreign Ministry since the start of the war in the country in 2011, Sheibani has been actively involved in Syrian opposition activities.
In Syria, rebels announced the first appointments to the transitional government. As reported by the dpa agency on the evening of Sunday, December 22, Esaad Hassan Sheibani will become the head of the Foreign Ministry.
At the same time, the Ministry of Defense will be headed by an engineer specializing in agriculture, Marhaf Abu Kasra.
According to media reports, Sheibani graduated from the Faculty of English Language and Literature of the University of Damascus. Since the start of the war in the country in 2011, Sheibani has been actively involved in Syrian opposition activities.
During the war, approximately two-thirds of the country’s territory was under the control of government forces, dpa recalled, while northwestern Syria was under the control of the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al- Sham (HTS) since 2017. In this “administration”, Sheybani served as the head of the political affairs department. He is responsible for “contact with representatives of foreign states and international organizations, including UN agencies and humanitarian structures.”
Syria’s new Defense Minister, Abu Kasra, was born in the city of Halfaja in Hama province, dpa notes. He is one of the most popular leaders of HTS.
Let’s recall that the first official US diplomatic trip to Damascus in ten years took place after recent visits by delegations from the UN and other countries, particularly Great Britain, France and Germany.
Let’s add that the Syrian revolutionaries assured the United States that they will not allow the militants of the Islamic State to join their actions against the remnants of the government of Bashar al-Assad.
The Assad regime has been overthrown – what will happen to Syria now?
