An international coalition led by Britain and Latvia will begin large-scale deliveries of UAVs to Ukraine in January.
A coalition of countries led by the UK and Latvia that jointly procure UAVs for Ukraine will begin handing over thousands of drones in January. This is what British Deputy Defense Minister Luke Pollard said, Interfax-Ukraine reports on Thursday, December 19.
“I can confirm that there will be a significant change in January when we start delivering thousands of drones as part of a UK-led coalition with Norwegian and Latvian partners,” Pollard said.
Pollard also said that the new aid package for Ukraine of almost $285 million, announced earlier, provides for the allocation of about $233 million for the purchase of “major military equipment” through the International Fund for Ukraine, governed by London.
These funds will be used to purchase air defense systems, related equipment, as well as “strengthening the combat capabilities of the Ukrainian Navy,” in particular modern reconnaissance UAVs, unmanned surface vehicles, mine drones clearance and loitering munitions.
The remaining funds will be used to supply electronic warfare systems against drones, as well as respirators and protective equipment for the Ukrainian military.
Currently, the members of the Drone Coalition are: UK, Latvia, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and Ukraine.
Let’s recall that the British government recently secretly supplied Ukraine with dozens of Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
Also, Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that Britain aims to strengthen Ukraine’s position by 2025.
