President Vladimir Zelensky commented on the mobilization age in Ukraine
The head of state said that he was receiving signals from some leaders about the need to lower the mobilization age. However, he considers such conversations dishonest, since in modern warfare not only the age of the military is important, but also the technology of the army. Zelensky stated this in an interview with Le Parisien.
We have heard signals from some leaders: lower the mobilization age. But I think that today this is a dishonest conversation. I spoke about this both publicly and privately to the leaders. Modern warfare is different. It’s not just about trenches, it’s not just sitting in a trench with a machine gun. These are modern weapons, drones and artillery, long-range weapons, aviation… And the leaders know this, so these are political games,” said the head of state.
At the same time, Zelensky agreed that the age of the military affects physical fitness. However, he emphasized that it is important for him to save the lives of young people, because this is not the First World War, this is not hand-to-hand combat. He described the current war as follows: it is a battle of weapons, a battle of intellect, a battle of technology.
Let us remind you that the White House has repeatedly called on Ukraine to increase the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by conscripting more fighters and revising mobilization legislation to allow conscription into the army at the age of 18.
The office of the President of Ukraine responded that Kyiv is not preparing to mobilize 18-year-olds.
